Why BaCo

Adapting a culture of helping you become all you were created to be was not an automatic process but over time it formed based on what our firm valued. Helping you be all you were created to be is really limiting that if it is just work, we were created to be a son, a daughter, a spouse, a parent, a friend, an advocate that does more than put debits on the left and credits on the right. It’s important that we provide excellent service to our clients when we are here so they appreciate and understand the need for us to completely disconnect when we aren’t. Once our clients become part of this culture, they are engaged in the process and work with us to plan around down time for each of us.

Julia Ford

I began my career at BaCo Group in 2002 when I was in the third year of my education degree at The University of Texas at Dallas.  I was coming off of a summer teaching at a local KinderCare and quickly realized that teaching was not my thing.  After a month of traveling, I came home and applied for an admin position, and Ford called within an hour of me submitting my resume asking if I could come for an interview in an hour.  My primary role was answering the phone, greetings clients, and generally not knowing a whole lot about taxes.  From there, I started helping out with the billing and tax return assembly and a few little accounting odds and ends jobs.  I quickly realized that my love for numbers might serve me well in the accounting industry and I changed my major to Accounting with an emphasis in Tax.  I worked closely with Ford, sometimes I would sit at his desk all day with him and watch him review tax returns while he talked it out.  While working at BaCo I was able to continue working full time while taking online and night classes full time – it wasn’t uncommon to see me with a tax return up on my work screen and my online classes up on my laptop and me flipping back and forth between the two throughout the day.  I found I learned far more working at BaCo than I did in any of my classes at UTD.

Why Baco? Because where else could I quickly progress from staff, to senior, to manager, and, now, to partner, all within 7 years of graduating from college?

Brennan Courtwright

I joined the BaCo team in 2016 as a senior accountant. I am originally from Southwest Florida and in 2005 I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida Gulf Coast University and became a CPA in 2007. My wife and I moved our family to Texas in 2015 for a career opportunity. After 11 years of experience working at CPA firms, I was looking for a place where I could balance work, while also being a loyal husband and a father of two young children. My wife has a demanding job and I realized after the birth of our second child in 2015, I needed to find a place where I could enjoy having a high level of flexibility with my work schedule. One of the things that I appreciate about BaCo Group is the ability to take time off to relax and unwind. I have more PTO time now than I have ever had anyplace else where I have worked, and I really value the extra time I can now spend with my wife and kids. Another big reason why I chose to work at BaCo Group is that they have invested in the technology necessary to get the job done efficiently. I have discovered that working in a paperless environment is beneficial. I don’t miss having to search the building looking for who has a paper file, like I have done so many times in the past. I also appreciate having the option of being able to work from home, even during busy season, so I don’t miss out on time with my family. Lastly, I enjoy the people that I work at BaCo Group because everyone is so understanding and supportive. It truly does feel like we are all on the same team and everyone is working together to put forward our best effort.           

Stefanie Crane

My name is Stefanie Crane- I am a CPA and the Director of Attestation services at The BaCo Group. My career started at KPMG in the 1990's. My husband and I met in college and went to work together at KPMG, and after working my way up the ranks there - we decided to start a family. We were blessed with three kids in two years and our growing family necessitated me becoming a stay at home mom. The demands of a big firm in terms of hours and travel were too much for me to be a great mom, which was my most important job. When my kids were 4 and 2 and 2, an opportunity with BaCo fell into my lap through a mutual friend. As I thought about returning to work after being out a couple years, I really loved the idea but flexibility was going to be the name of the game. I met with Ford and the BaCo team and my skill set was one that was needed, and I started working on a part-time basis. That was almost 10 years ago. As my kids have gotten older and are in school full time, I'm in the office more - but still flexible and still on a reduced schedule. It has been an amazing arrangement and a huge blessing for our family, allowing me to have a career and be a mom without sacrificing either. I have enjoyed my time at BaCo immensely but my favorite part of our firm environment and culture is that everyone has a voice. From the moment I started my opinions and insights were valued. Also, my flexible arrangement has not led to reduced opportunities for advancement. The BaCo team embraces change and out of the box thinking. We do almost nothing the same way as a traditional CPA firm, which makes work more exciting and leads to huge personal growth as we all learn from and lean on each other's strengths.
